The UK sports betting and casino giant William Hill announced that it has extended its partnership agreement with the Football Writers’ Association. During the next three years, William Hill will be its general sponsor.
Both organisations have been working in collaboration for three years now. According to the agreement clauses, William Hill was required to produce weekly podcasts.
As for FWA, it was established in 1947 and it is mainly known as the organisation awarding the annual Footballer of the Year award. Some of the latest winners are Leicester’s star Jamie Vardy, Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard.
The previous FWA title sponsor was Barclays Bank. The latter has been sponsoring both the Premier League title and the FWA for more than a decade.
Patrick Barclay, the FWA Chairman commented on the renewed partnership and said that the organisation enjoyed excellent working relationship with the bookmaker and they were delighted to have it as a title sponsor for at least three years.
He added that William Hill was also going to be the main supporter or the Footballer of the Year Dinner. In addition, FWA was about to continue broadcasting bookmaker’s podcast. In addition, he confirmed that William Hill will support the FWA Live events, the first of which is to be held in Leicester this month. Mr. Barclay went on to say that they wanted to build on the surge in membership recorded over the last year.
He also added that William Hill shared the vision of FWA and remained hopeful that the support the bookmaker ensures would lead to strides in enhancing the lot of football journalists. He said they wanted to encourage everybody, engaged in the football journalism industry regardless of their age, the exact niche they were covering or their gender.
Alex O’Shaughnessy, the Chief Marketing Officer of William Hill said they were delighted to become the new sponsor of FWA and added that it was wonderful that William Hill has increased its support for the association after being on good terms with FWA for a couple of years.
Those who keep themselves informed about the latest events at William Hill know that the bookmaker has recently made the headlines not only because of the Rank Group-888 consortium bid rejection but also because of the deals it inked with Everton, Chelsea and Spurs.
